Today I decided to break up my work day by hitting some of the hills in my neighborhood for a little run around lunchtime. Between the added effort of running on snow and ice and up hills, I took a couple of recovery breaks to snap some photos.
Although I'm grateful for my treadmill and the flexibility that it gives me in fitting in my workouts, especially during the darkness of winter, there's nothing like being outside on a beautiful day. It's especially nice after a morning spent (hopefully productively) writing at my desk. It's also good to balance virtue with chocolate cake -- like the one I'll be baking for my wonderful spouse's birthday a bit later this afternoon.... I'll take this opportunity to wish Mark a happy birthday and state for the record that I love him even more than running (and definitely more than hill work)!

Those photos are gorgeous - and this is from someone who hates the cold and the snow more than pretty much anything.
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to Mark! Chocolate cake sounds like an excellent way to celebrate. :)
Holy cow you are living in a gorgeous part of the world! Happy bday to Mark.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos :)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty! I really wish I lived near mountains, so please keep posting more pictures of them :) I can pretend I'm running in the mountains... while I'm running through a boring, flat suburban corporate park.
ReplyDeleteThere is still so much snow! Those mountains do look really beautiful. I feel like it would be so odd to just be driving around have something like them in the background.

Wow! That blue and white has to be spirit-lifting. . . must be cold, obviously, but so much more fun than running a treadmill (although I'd be constantly worrying about wiping out)
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pictures! I agree- a morning of writing and some winter sun running sounds like a perfect day!
ReplyDeleteWow--it is beautiful there! Looks so cold, though! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful day! I remember trying to run on barely paved sidewalks (or the street!) in Iowa during the winter. It makes things a lot harder! And then to throw hills on top of that is even more difficult! Good for you!
ReplyDeleteYea for getting outside for a run! I ran outside on Monday and it felt so great to breathe some fresh air. Plus our days are getting longer so it was still light out when I finished. I hope M. had a wonderful birthday!!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful!!
